Rep. Hamzy Volunteers for Salvation Army, Raises Money for Charity
Hartford- On Friday, Representative William Hamzy (R- Plymouth) spent an hour outside of the Bristol Wal-Mart to raise money for the Salvation Army.
“The Salvation Army does a lot of good work and raises a lot of money for people in need,” said Representative Hamzy. “I am happy I had the opportunity to help out today and raise some money for charity.”
During just one hour of bell-ringing Representative Hamzy helped encourage shoppers to contribute $86.91 to the famous red kettle. Wal-Mart has agreed to match that amount with a dollar-for-dollar contribution to the Salvation Army bringing the total for the hour to $173.82.
“This is what the holiday season is all about,” Hamzy said. “Due to the poor economy a lot of people are cutting back on their normal holiday spending yet, they are still reaching into their pockets to contribute to charity. With the help of the Salvation Army and Wal-Mart we were able to make a pretty sizable contribution in just one hour. It’s very encouraging.”
